Microsoft, rather than Nintendo or Sony, will win this years E3 event according to the majority of IGN readers who were surveyed in a recent poll. The publication asked its substantial user base a number of questions related to the forthcoming trade show and sadly the results make bad reading for Nintendo fans. Sony should be pleased as IGN readers were more interested in receiving information about the next PlayStation console during the event, rather than the next Xbox or Wii U.

While I’d guess most FarmVille players aren’t suffering from a lack of Special Delivery Boxes, if you do happen to run through yours just as fast as your friends can then them to you, you can now build the new upgradeable Fishing Hole on one of your farms. This Fishing Hole, once built and upgraded, will allow you to collect from it daily in order to earn free Special Delivery Boxes.

The first stage of the Fishing Hole (there are four stages in all) requires 34 parts: 10 Lures and 12 each of Fishing Poles and Lily Pads. You can collect these by asking your friends to send them to you, or by purchasing them outright with Farm Cash. Once you’ve finished this first stage, the Fishing Hole will technically be functional, allowing you to collect just a single Special Delivery Box each time you collect from it. As you continue to upgrade the Fishing Hole with additional building materials, your payouts will increase, as seen below.

Level 1: 1 Special Delivery Box

Level 2: 2 Special Delivery Boxes

Level 3: 3 Special Delivery Boxes

Level 4: 6 Special Delivery Boxes

As you can see, there’s definitely great incentive to eventually upgrade your Fishing Hole, as those six Special Delivery Boxes per collection will allow you to complete the upgrades on any number of structures around your farms – even those on other farms, as you can wait until you travel to another farm before
Article source: http://blog.games.com/2012/05/19/farmville-fishing-hole/

The Paul Gale Network, which is renowned for posting rather obscure rumours, claims that the game Retro Studio’s is working on for Wii U is a Star Fox and Metroid collaboration. We already know that Retro Studios are possibly working on a Star Fox title for Wii U, although this idea sounds a little too far-fetched. All will be revealed at E3 which takes place in just a few weeks.

Some folk at Retro Studios wanted to develop a new ip that involved 3rd person sci-fi action with intense aerial combat.

Others apparently were leaning towards taking the Star Fox helm.

Nintendo sees Retro Studios as a very competent developer and worked with them in creating the hybrid title of Star Fox – Metroid: Fusion Saga.

The title has multiple gameplay mechanics and needed a wide staff of talent to incorporate the many ideas.

The story begins as you control Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team on deep space mission in your Arwing, flying through a Meteos-like stage. As you enter a light speed warp, there’s a collision with an orange ship (Samus’) and the game continues with you now plummeting to a planet as Samus in her craft. You’re in mild control of her ship, using the Wii U controller to look around and touch screen press the lit up buttons to prepare for impact (while the TV stays locked on what you see out of the cockpit). You’re now on
Article source: http://mynintendonews.com/2012/05/19/retros-new-game-to-be-star-fox-metroid-fusion-saga/

No mascot on day one

In recent weeks we’ve been looking at console launches, as preparation for the pre-launch hype for Wii U that’s set to begin at E3 2012. So far we’ve explored console launches in general but also the launch of Wii, a system that notably arrived without a Mario title but has nevertheless achieved major sales success. In some cases, however, the absence of a major Mario title has been a source of controversy and debate: various Nintendo systems have launched with the famous mascot, so we’ve decided to look at the launches of GameCube and 3DS and consider whether the absence of Mario affected the early and long-term success of the systems. Mike Mason and Thomas Whitehead assess both launches and consider whether either suffered without the famous plumber, or whether he would have made little difference to each system’s fate. In the case of 3DS the handheld still has plenty of years on the market, while the GameCube has since been vastly overshadowed by Wii.

The Launch of GameCube — Mike Mason

Nintendo’s approach with GameCube’s launch was similar to SNES’ in that it was released with support from an established intellectual property alongside a new one. The difference was that GameCube’s existing series was not a Mario title but Wave Race: Blue Storm; not exactly a fair match for Super Mario World.

It’s official: After eight long years, Facebook is a public company. Mark Zuckerberg rang the bell this morning, setting off Facebook’s initial public offering (IPO) on the NASDAQ. Not only is this one of the largest technology IPOs in history, it’s also one of the most loaded. Way too many companies’ success rides on whether Facebook does well as a public company.

But no type of company has more stake in whether Facebook succeeds than the game makers. Largely responsible for almost all of the company’s revenue through Facebook Credits, developers like Zynga may now depend on Facebook more than ever at the very moment that its motives may change. But according to Seismic Games CEO Greg Borrud, any changes that we’ll see in social games as a result of the IPO won’t be for a while.

“I don’t think it’s going to have an impact on gaming in the next couple of weeks or even the next month or two,” Borrud tells us. “There’s no immediate change that we expect from an IPO.” However, Borrud just led the launch of Seismic’s first-ever Facebook game, CelebrityMe, which may see the benefit of Facebook’s new found wealth soon enough. Facebook’s games team only stands to grow as a result of this cash injection, and already that team has proved crucial to CelebrityMe.

“We have a contact at Facebook that has played [CelebrityMe] quite a bit–unprompted, might I add–and
Article source: http://blog.games.com/2012/05/18/facebook-ipo-social-games-interview/

Just a few years ago, most major developers had tried their proverbial hand at a city-building or farming game, but now, the trends have shifted more towards arcade style casino and card games. In terms of card games, one style in particular has found a following on Facebook – pyramid solitaire (look at Solitaire Blitz, for example). King.com carries on in this new tradition with the launch of Pyramid Solitaire Saga on Facebook.

Pyramid Solitaire Saga (phew, say that five times fast) takes place in and around the pyramids of Egypt, with each level giving you a set of cards to clear from your stone tablet. For those unfamiliar with pyramid solitaire, you’ll have one active card at the bottom of the screen, and must then clear the cards above by clicking on cards one number lower or higher than that active card. That is, if a 3 is the active card, you could then click on either a 2 or a 4 to begin a run.

The ultimate goal in each level of Pyramid Solitaire Saga is to clear enough cards to uncover the golden scarabs, which normally rest underneath larger piles of cards. It’s not necessary to clear 100% of the cards in each level to achieve this, but you’ll probably get pretty close each time. You’ll have five lives
Article source: http://blog.games.com/2012/05/18/pyramid-solitaire-saga-review/

Many high-level CastleVille players have been begging for additional land space within which to expand their Kingdoms, and that chance is finally here as the game’s board has been expanded to offer plenty of additional square expansion spaces that you’ll be able to unlock over time. The first few squares are covered in magical stones and a massive skull dragon cave, bringing with them a new quest set called the “Abandoned Dragon Cave.” There are nine quests in this series altogether, but the amount of debris on these new land expansions will give you plenty to work on long after you’ve finished the quests.

Just as the Lamont feature introduced items wrapped in vines that needed to be cleansed one by one, so too does this feature introduce items wrapped with or otherwise made of Amythite and Mythium, too magical substances.
